Torch & Compass Children's Privacy Policy
Torch & Compass values all visitors to torchandcompass.com. To maintain the integrity of the experience, Torch & Compass is committed to protecting the privacy of its users and safeguarding any personal information we obtain. This Children's Privacy Policy is intended to answer any questions about our privacy policies and principles as they relate to children.
We understand the need to create extra privacy protections for children visiting our site. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires that we advise parents and legal guardians on the collection, usage, and disclosure of personal information from children 13 years or younger. As a result, the consent of parents and guardians is required for children under 13 to use certain sections of this site. Please note, when we refer to children in the below FAQ, we mean any child 13 years or younger and when we refer to a "parent" we mean to include legal guardians as well.
Children can surf torch&compass.com without personal information being collected. However, if they register for our regular sweepstakes, contests or to participate in a special activity, we may ask the children to register. The only information we collect during the registrationprocess is a child's first name, birth date parent's email address, member name, and password. We collect birth dates to validate the ages of our guests, including children. Occasionally, we may ask for a child's friend's first name for the purpose of inviting that child to join the sweepstakes; but invites are only sent upon consent of the parent (see below). No other information is collected during registration.
Note
that "COPPA" stipulates that all sites designed for children
under 13 are prohibited by law from conditioning a child to offer
extra personal information that is not condoned by a parent. Once
a child registers, we will contact the parent, requesting permission
to enroll the child in the sweepstakes, contest or special activity.
See below for more information on how we receive consent from parents
by email. We may collect email addresses, only on the authorization
of parents in order that the child may send invites to friends to
join the sweepstakes, contests, or special activity.
In
addition, to ensure that parents are comfortable with all aspects
of their child's participation, we may ask consent for the child
to participate in a suite of community tools that include blogging.
We do not share any information about a child with any third parties.
When a child registers and enters a sweepstakes or contest, we give
parents 48 hours to refuse the child's registration. If a parent
chooses to refuse the registration, we delete the child's information
from our database. If the parent does not contact us, we assume
the parent has consented.
For
the convenience of the parents, once a child has been successfully
registered, the child will be able to enter into future contests,
sweepstakes and special activity without a parent's consent, assuming
the disclosure of information is no greater than that already approved
of by the parent by not refusing the initial registration. If the
child wins, we will contact the parent in order to collect the address
the prize should be sent to. In an effort to share the excitement
of the sweepstakes, contest, or special activity, we may publish
the winner's first name and state of residence.
Parents,
at any time, can ask us to stop collecting personal information
already consented to and ask that we remove all information on their
children in the database. Parents can email info@leanforwardmedia.com children in the database. Parents can email info@leanforwardmedia.com
with the subject heading: Registration Removal. The parent will
be sent a confirmation email. Occasionally our policy may change,
at which time we will notify parents by email of any material changes
in the way we collect or use children's information. Material changes
will be reflected in our privacy policy as directed by COPPA. |
